A Federal UK
The Constitution of the UK
So, having decided to create a constitution for the new federal United Kingdom of Great Britain, how should I go about it? When there was a chance, however remote, that England might be independent, or at least that the people might declare independence, I took a stab at writing a constitution for England. It was most probably rubbish but at least I tried. What I found was that I would have as much trouble trying to decide how much to include in the English constitution, as I would trying to decide what to leave out. With the British constitution I have put together in support of a Federal UK, I tried a different direction. Reading the US Constitution, I found that I could use it as a guide to what I could write and not write, being a Constitution of a federal system. I did not want it to be a template for the British Constitution, as there are many aspects of British life and politics that are very different. In any case many parts of the US Constitution’s origins lie in England’s and therefore Britain’s history anyway.
So here it is. On the right you will see a downloadable PDF file that you can view for yourselves. However, this version is a very rough first draft and should not be considered the finished product. Constructive criticism is always welcome, anything else will be ignored. Anything that is mentioned that I think can be included in this constitution will be. Enjoy.
